We used a recycled election campaign poster to create our 'Tree of Knowledge'. For the leaves, we used our hand prints to show our connection with the world around us. Then we cut out some templates of oak leaves and wrote an interesting fact about trees on the back of each. We placed the tree in a prominent location. As people pass, they can look behind a leaf to find out an interesting fact about trees and global warming. We also designed posters and stuck them up around the school.
Amazing Acorns have been busy designing our logo and coming up with a slogan. We are a part of life on planet Earth and we need to 'give Earth a hand and plant a tree'!
Together, we designed a survey to give our school mates. We wanted to find out if people could identify fossil fuels, if people know that trees release oxygen, if they know that trees absorb carbon dioxide, if people know what global warming means for Ireland and find out why they thought trees are important. One of our most interesting findings was that the vast majority of students think that global warming means that Ireland will get drier and warmer when, in fact, it will get warmer and wetter.
Here we working hard brainstorming ideas and conducting research on the internet. We love working as a team and we are learning lots from sharing ideas with each other. We're almost ready to fully launch our campaign.
Today, our mentor, Bríd visited us to see how we are getting on with our research for our project called 'Give Earth a hand. Plant a tree!'. She gave an interesting presentation and answered all of our questions. We're excited to keep going with our campaign. Thanks Bríd!
