See you all when school re-opens on January 6th. We hope everyone has a happy and peaceful Christmas!
The girls and boys were so excited to see Santa Claus this morning!! They all agreed that 8 o' clock would be a good time to go to bed on Christmas Eve. Click on the Christmas tree below to be brought to a great website in which you can track Santa's journey around the world on Christmas Eve.
See you all when school re-opens on January 6th. We hope everyone has a happy and peaceful Christmas! As a reward for reaching our Accelerated Reader targets, Ms. Vaughan did some Christmas baking with us. The main ingredients were flour, sugar and butter. We used cookie cutters to make different shaped cookies. When we took them out of the oven, we decorated the cookies with icing and sprinkles. Ms. Vaughan then helped us to wrap them using clear plastic, ribbon and tags so that they were beautifully presented. We had so much fun and the cookies tasted delicious! Winter Solstice is the shortest day of the year. That means it has the least amount of daylight and a really long night. It gets dark VERY early! From here on, the days get longer and longer until Summer Solstice, which is the longest day of the year and is in June.
Have a look at the video below to see Mrs Tiernan's 2nd class welcoming the solstice with a song. We were delighted to perform for parents and shoppers in the Dunnes Stores Mall on Friday last. Members of our school band and choir from 3rd to 6th class took part and it was a very festive and fun event as always. Thank you to all teachers, our caretakers, Father Tom and parents who helped transport equipment and set up on the mall; and thank you to our musician friends, Micheal Butler and John Lynch from the Kilfenora Céilí Band! Well done to the children who played so beautifully and behaved so well and a big thank you to everyone for their generosity and support! Merry Christmas!
![]() Junior Infants, Senior Infants, 1st and 2nd Class performed their Christmas plays on Wednesday. They all did really well and enjoyed the experience themselves too! Click here to visit our Gallery to see them! Well done to all the children for their work towards our Green Flag this term. Activities for the Autumn/Winter term included a visit to Seed Savers, mini-beast hunts, tree surveys, writing reports and poetry about wildlife, sketching the wildflower garden that we planted last year, SEAI energy awareness workshops, feeding the birds and participating in Birdwatch Ireland's 'garden birds survey'. We also prepared for Spring by planting bulbs and assembling the painted tyre planters. Members of the Green Schools Committee are responsible for emptying compost bins and switching off lights each day. Have a look at our slideshow to see some of our work. Happy Christmas from the Green Schools Committee. We look forward to a busy Spring!
