Students at Scoil Chríost Rí have access to a variety of numeracy and literacy programmes. The primary aim of each is to challenge each child at their own level so that they are able to reach their full potential.

1. Reading Recovery
Reading Recovery is a reading programme that is available to all pupils aged five or six who need it. Scoil Chríost Rí has qualified reading recovery teachers who work with individual pupils on a one to one basis.
Children meet individually with a Reading Recovery teacher, 30 minutes each day for an average of 12 to 20 weeks. As soon as they develop effective reading and writing processing strategies that enable them to work within an average range of classroom performance and demonstrate they can continue to achieve, their lessons are discontinued, and new students begin individual instruction.

2. Maths Recovery in Scoil Chríost Rí offers a unique approach to extending children's number knowledge, understanding and strategies. The programme is used in Scoil Chríost Rí with children from Junior Infants to 1st Class.
The programme gives an extremely detailed assessment of pupils’ abilities in Maths and then provides a framework for individual, group or class based instruction. Maths Recovery is suitable not only for pupils who are experiencing difficulties but also for average and more able children.

3. Accelerated Reader
Accelerated Reader (AR) promotes reading for pleasure and independent reading in Scoil Chríost Rí.
AR works in 3 basic steps:
1. Children choose a book within their level
2. They read it at your own pace
3. Take a quiz and score some points
During this school year pupils in Scoil Chríost Rí have read a total of 6051 books and over 17 million words! A culture of independent reading practice and a love of books has developed in Scoil Chríost Rí as a result of AR.

Literacy Lift-Off is a whole-class intensive intervention aimed at increasing each child’s competency in oral language, reading and writing. Literacy Lift-Off is used from Senior Infants to Second Class

6.Incredible Years
The Incredible Years Programme aims to promote children's emotional and social skills to improve learning and reduce incidents of misbehaviour.
All of our staff have been trained in the 'Incredible Years Teacher Classroom Management Programme. We recognise that building positive relationships with students built on trust, understanding and caring will increase children's cooperation and motivation and improve their learning and achievement in Scoil Chríost Rí.

7.Scratch is a free programming language and online community where you can create your own interactive stories, games, and animations. Scratch teaches computational thinking and problem solving using
a simple-to-use, yet powerful, building block approach to software
development. Pupils in 5th class undertake 10 lesson plans developed for primary level students and can achieve Scratch Completion Certificates awarded by The Irish Computer Society.

8. Aistear is the early childhood curriculum framework for all children from birth to six years. The word Aistear is the Irish word for journey and was chosen because early childhood marks the beginning of children’s lifelong learning journeys.
Aistear is the key learning and teaching tool used to implement the primary school curriculum in infant classes in Scoil Chríost Rí. The children play for a period each day, with an emphasis on active learning and oral language development. During the Aistear period, the children are implementing their numeracy and literacy skills in a more meaningful way through the use of role play, games and real-life situations. |
9. LEGO Education students can build robots and use software to plan, test and modify sequences of instructions from a variety of real life robotic behaviours. They gather and analyse data from sensors using data from a computer. LEGO computer programming is an exciting way to bring science, technology, engineering and mathematics to a primary school classroom.

10. The Junior Entrepreneur Programme (JEP) is a 10 week entrepreneurial education programme for primary school pupils. This innovative programme opens the minds of primary school pupils to the joy of entrepreneurship at a time in their lives when they are full of imagination and open to new possibilities. The programme helps participating pupils to develop a number of skills including literacy, writing, presentation, drawing, technology, research skills, numeracy, financial, consumer awareness, storytelling, listening skills, creative thinking, problem solving, team building and collaboration skills. 5th/6th Class take part in the JEP programme in Scoil Chríost Rí.

Cyber Smarties: Cybersmarties are developing technology which educates positive behaviour on a practical, safe platform for Primary School children and young adults with Special Needs, to ensure that all can learn safe, fun and positive social networking skills which promote self-confidence, self-esteem and eliminate cyber-bullying.
